Dr. Danchell’s house<\/h2>\n\n

The house and side building were built in 1866 by a very popular district doctor, Dr Poul Edward Peter Danchell, who was a doctor in Allinge from 1865 to 1896. From old papers it is stated that in the attic a dome was made that could rotate, it is believed to be a small version of an observatory, this part of the building no longer exists. Dr Danchell was no ordinary doctor who prescribed medicine only in pill form, preferring to use nature’s own healing herbs as medicine for his patents and advocating that a healthy diet and plenty of exercise were important for health.<\/p>\n\n

Dr Danchell was known not to charge for his treatments if his medicine had not helped the patient, he would even give money to the poor patients. Dr. Danchell remained unmarried, but took several foster children as his own. You have the possibility to sleep in Dr. Danchell’s house as it is now a guesthouse. Dr. Danchell died on September 23, 1904, and in connection therewith the following was printed in the newspaper:<\/p>\n\n

He was almost described as an original, hence several anecdotes. He lived in a curious house where you entered through the gate and to one side was the consulting room and to the other side was the broom closet. He very rarely had guests and declined invitations. He loved music and could stand outside a house and listen to the music playing, but if he was invited inside he said no thanks. But when there were concerts in town, Danchell was there and he showed his enthusiasm for the music in a very special way, howling like a dog.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
